No. Plate recognition didn’t work. Barrier didn’t raise. So I ( know I shouldn’t have) pressed ticket button to get in. On return I pressed ‘help’ to get out. All done very efficiently. No fuss, thanks,👍🏻

About Belfast International Airport
Belfast International Airport, formerly known as Aldergrove Airport, is located approximately 21 km (13 miles) northwest of Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is the city's main international airport and one of the busiest in the region. In 2024, the airport welcomed over 6.7 million passengers – its highest annual figure to date – marking a 13% increase from 2023.
The airport is a hub for easyJet, Northern Ireland’s largest airline and serves flights operated by Jet2, Ryanair and other carriers to a range of UK, European and leisure destinations.
Terminals
Belfast International Airport has a single, easy-to-navigate passenger terminal spread across two floors:
- Ground Floor – Arrivals and check-in
- First Floor – Departures
Check-in
You should aim to arrive at least two hours before your flight departs to allow time for check-in, security and boarding.
- Long-haul flights: Check-in opens around 3 hours before departure
- European flights: Check-in opens around 3 hours before departure
- UK and Ireland flights: Check-in opens around 2 hours before departure
Always confirm check-in times directly with your airline, as they may vary.
If you have already checked in online and only have hand luggage, you can proceed straight to security. Self-service check-in kiosks may also be available for added convenience. Be sure to have your passport and boarding pass ready for bag drop and security screening.
Security
When going through security at Belfast International Airport, it is important to be prepared even with a fast-track pass so that you can save time and get ahead. Boarding passes should be ready to scan after getting into the dedicated fast track lane, but your passport is not needed.
Ensure all your liquids are in an airtight sealed plastic bag of 20cm (about 7.87 in) x 20cm (about 7.87 in) ready to be checked separately from the rest of your belongings and that they are each under 100ml (about 3.38 oz) or less. Electronics and jackets or belts should be taken out separately for checking as well and you may be asked to remove your shoes if necessary.
Departures
Once through security, check the flight information screens for up-to-date details on your flight, including boarding times and gate numbers. Gates typically open 45 to 60 minutes before departure.
Whether you are flying for business or leisure, Belfast International Airport offers a straightforward and efficient airport experience.
