East Midlands Airport cigarette haul
Customs at East Midlands airport seized 300,000 cigarettes from 16 people travelling from Tenerife. The cost of the cigarettes on the Spanish Island would have cost £30,000 and could be resold in the UK for a value of £90,000. It is believed this haul was linked to criminal gangs who were smuggling in the contriband. This is a record haul for the Customs and Excise Officers in the East Midlands airport.
