Next summer will see the expansion on United Airlines presence at Shannon Airport, with a new route launched to Chicago, in the USA. This will give Shannon Airport a welcome boost in the international market, along with the already very successful line to Newark, which has a daily flight from Shannon.
The Chicago service is due to launch next summer, and hopes to generate an extra 20,000 passengers through the airport, with 5 flights a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. To start with, a trial period over the summer season is in place, and the service will start on 6th June and operate until 28th August.
The route has been set up following strong demand that was seen on previous route to Chicago, namely services run by Aer Lingus and American Airlines. Shannon Airport's manager has said they are delighted with the new route and the increase in business it promises for the airport.
